What is an electric bike?

Also known as an eBike or e-bike, an electric bike is a bicycle integrated with electrical components – like a motor, battery, and controller – to electrically assist with propulsion. The brushless rear hub motor on our eBikes provides an additional boost with each pedal that allows you to go faster, travel farther, and pedal with more ease compared to a conventional bicycle. It’s like having the wind at your back on demand.

How is an electric bike different from a conventional bike?

Design & Mechanics

Electric bikes actually look and function similarly to conventional bicycles. The primary difference is the electrical drive system that enhances human-generated pedaling power. Think of it as an extra boost as you ride.

Other components like our 26-inch wheels, handlebars, and frame along with traditional mechanics like brakes and pedals are the same style and function as a conventional pedal bike.


The electrical components of the eBike enhance propulsion by augmenting human pedaling power, allowing you to go faster on an electric bike than a regular bike when pedaling at the same rate. In throttle-only mode, our eBikes can travel with a high speed of up to 20 MPH. With this boost, Flyer™ eBikes enhance the joy, freedom, and fun of conventional bike riding.

Riding Modes

With a conventional bike, there is only one way to ride: pedal-only. With a Flyer™ electric bike, there are 3 riding modes with varying levels of assistance: pedal-only, pedal-assist, and throttle-only.

How do I ride an electric bike?

Where can I use my electric bike?

You can ride an electric bike almost anywhere you can ride a conventional bike, including most bike paths and protected bike lanes. Always check & follow local guidelines when riding your electric bike.

How fast can they go?

As fast as you can pedal! The electrical components of the eBike enhance propulsion by augmenting human pedaling power. You’ll feel like you’re flying with each revolution. In throttle-only mode, our eBikes can travel up to 20 MPH.

How far can they go?

Range is impacted by a number of factors: total payload, your size, riding mode, hills, wind, and other external factors. In the most favorable conditions, Flyer™ eBikes can travel up to 50+ miles per charge.

How do I charge an electric bike?

It’s easy – simply plug & charge just like your other electronics. There is a charge port located on the removable battery. You can charge the battery on or off the bicycle. To remove the battery, simply use the unique keyset to pop it out. All Flyer™ electric bikes come with everything you need for standard at-home charging.
